How To Refill Your Wick Lighter
Share
Our Middle Finger wick lighters are best-sellers for a reason — they're stylish, made with high quality standards, and endlessly reusable and refillable. But how exactly do you refill one? Follow this easy step-by-step guide to keep your Middle Finger, or similar cotton-wick lighter in top shape for years to come.
What You’ll Need:
- Lighter fluid (high-quality lighter fluid - NOT BUTANE)
- A screwdriver
- Lighter (your Middle Finger or similar model)
- Soft cloth or paper towel (for cleaning up any spills)
- Lighter fluid refilling bottle (if your lighter doesn’t have a built-in refill nozzle)
Step-by-Step Refilling Guide:
-
Remove the Lighter from Its Case
Many lighters have a metal chamber housed inside a decorative outer shell. Carefully remove the metal insert from the casing. -
Turn the Lighter Upside Down
Flip the lighter so the felt pad is facing you. If there’s a small screw securing the felt pad, use a small screwdriver to unscrew it. -
Lift the Felt Pad
Gently lift the felt pad with your fingers. If it’s too hard to remove, use a paperclip or Fog Pin (or another small tool) to lift it carefully without damaging it. -
Add Fluid to the Cotton Wick
Underneath the felt pad, you’ll see the cotton wadding that absorbs the fuel. Add small bursts of lighter fluid to the cotton, waiting a few moments between each burst to allow it to soak in. Repeat this process (up to four times) until the cotton turns greyish and stops absorbing any more fluid.Note: Avoid overfilling! If you're refilling for the first time, the cotton may be a bit stiff and take longer to absorb the fluid, but it will improve with use.
-
Replace the Felt Pad and Screw
Once the cotton wick is fully saturated, carefully place the felt pad back into position and screw it back in (if applicable). -
Reassemble the Lighter
Slide the metal insert back into the outer casing, ensuring it's securely seated. -
Allow the Fluid to Absorb
Let the fluid sit for about 45 seconds to ensure the wick is properly soaked. This helps ensure a steady flame when you light it. -
Clean Up
Wipe away any excess fluid from the casing and wash your hands thoroughly before using the lighter. -
Test the Flame
After the fluid has absorbed, test the lighter. Be cautious, as the flame might be larger than usual when you first use it after refilling. If everything looks good, your lighter is ready to go!
